If you've stopped by Crowe Boot & Shoe recently, you've probably noticed something a little unexpected.

Sitting right in the middle of our showroom is an iconic original 1940 Indian Chief motorcycle.

Why?

Because we believe some of the best experiences are the ones you never expected.

Thanks to my brother, Sam Surratt, who graciously loaned us this one-of-a-kind motorcycle, we're able to share a fascinating piece of American history with our customers, motorcycle enthusiasts, Historic Route 66 travelers, and anyone who simply enjoys a great story.

At first glance...

It's a beautiful vintage motorcycle.

But once you learn its story, you realize it's much more than that.

This motorcycle spent more than sixty years hidden away in an Illinois shed before being rediscovered during what began as an ordinary tree removal job.

Along the way came unexpected friendships, family memories, surprising discoveries, and one incredible journey that eventually brought this motorcycle back into the light.

Today, experts believe this may be the only known yellow-and-black 1940 Indian Chief in existence.

But for us...

The people behind the story are every bit as special as the motorcycle itself.

This story begins with John Wubker, whose motorcycle remained hidden for nearly sixty years. We're grateful to the Wubker family for preserving its history and allowing this extraordinary story to continue being shared.
